B-L Lady Panthers top Wagener-Salley

The Batesburg-Leesville varsity girls basketball team struggled
through their week last week as they dropped games at
Strom Thurmond and Saluda but defeated Wagener-Salley. The
Panthers are now 6-7 overall and 1-4 in Region 2-AA play. Saluda
is in fi rst place with a 5-0 conference record while B-L is in
fi fth place with a 1-4 mark. This week the Panthers are off until
traveling to Crescent on Friday as they look to defeat the Tigers
for the second time this season.
Strom Thurmond 59, B-L 27
The Rebels jumped out of the gates fast on the Panthers as
they built a 22-8 fi rst quarter lead and held a 30-15 halftime
lead. In the third quarter the Rebels put the game out of reach
50-23 as they rolled to a 59-27 win. B-L was led by Lay Gates
with 15 points while Ashlee Chinn led Strom Thurmond with 18.

B-L 60, Wagener-Salley 50
The Panthers attacked the War Eagles quickly in the fi rst quarter
going up 25-7 with Gates scoring 12 points and Long six. In
the second quarter Wagener-Salley rallied to cut the defi cit to 11
points, 35-24. In the third quarter the War Eagles continued to
cut into the lead as B-L led just 41-35 at the end of three quarters.
In the fourth, B-L pulled away, again led by Gates with 11
points as B-L won 60-50. Gates led all scorers with 26 points
while Mya Landy and Morgan Foster each had 14 for the War
Eagles. B-L scorers: Gates 26, Long 14, Gantt 14, Dazuna Lott

Saluda 45, B-L 16
Saluda dominated the game on both ends of the court as they
led 13-3 after the fi rst quarter and 22-7 at halftime with B-L only
scoring two fi eld goals. In the third quarter the Tigers extended
the lead to 34-9 as it would take until early in the fourth quarter
before the Panthers broke into double digits as Saluda won 45-
16. Gantt led B-L with six points while Star Ergle led Saluda with
