Batesburg-Leesville thumps Edisto 52-0 in preseason Sportsarama

The Batesburg-Leesville Panthers continued to build on a strong preseason with a 52-0 defeat of the Edisto Cougars at the Lexington-County Sportsarama Friday night in Gilbert.

The Panthers will open the regular season Friday night, Aug. 23, at Panther Stadium as they host the Ridge Spring-Monetta Trojans at 7:30 p.m.

B-L’s defense set up the offense throughout the two-quarter exhibition. B-L’s offense scored every time they had the ball in the win. Marvin Gantt, a junior running back, scored three touchdowns on three carries in the first quarter on runs of 9 yards, 58 yards and 15 yards to give B-L a 19-0 lead at the end of the quarter.

In the second quarter, B-L added a 22-yard run from Amah-Dre Leaphart to make it 26-0 before Gantt added his fourth score of the night on a 28-yard run to give B-L a 32-0 lead.

Gantt finished the night with four carries for 110 yards and four touchdowns. Back-up quarterback Ca’marious Long would add a 10-yard run later to increase the lead to 39-0. B-L’s defense would finish the scoring with back- to-back interception returns for touchdowns as Ty Adams and then Josh Monroe scored on 38-yard touchdown returns. Jackson Lorick converted four extra points in the win.

In addition to Adams and Monroe’s interception, Damazhay Long also had an interception. B-L also had great play on defense from Gantt,┬áDarius Dennis, Jevon Morris, Bryce Burkett, Chris Whitt and Matthew Boozer.
