Election Day is fast approaching in two nearby municipalities, and polls will be open Tuesday, but don’t expect much suspense when the results are tallied.
Mayor Patsy Asbill is running unopposed for re-election in the Town of Ridge Spring, located nine miles down Highway 23 from Batesburg-Leesville in Saluda County. Four active candidates are vying for four slots on Town Council: Patrick Arnold, Richard L. Christie, Crys Lybrand and Qwen Etheredge.
The South Carolina Election Commission (SCEC) website, www.scvotes.org, also lists Capers Asbill Jr. as a one-time Town Council candidate but now lists Mr. Asbill’s status as “Withdrew.”
The Municipal Association of South Carolina lists the population of Ridge Spring as 737 people.
Another four miles down Highway 23, the Town of Ward in Saluda County is holding its municipal elections also on Tuesday. Larry Lange is listed on the SCEC website as the lone candidate for Mayor, while Tommy Williams Jr. and Bob Lathrop are vying for Town Council.
The population of Ward is listed as 91, so voter turnout for Tuesday’s election is expected to be light.
