GUEST EDITORIAL: Dr. Stephen Hefner

Dear Lexington County School District Three Community,

One of my favorite days of each year is the first day of school. The first day of the 2019-2020 school year promises to be another day for the memory books. Our faculty and staff have worked diligently to prepare for the return of our students on Monday, August 19, 2019.

As the new school year begins, please remember that it takes all of us to make sure that our students are able to do their very best work. We are counting on our parents and guardians to ensure that our students come to school each day rested and ready to learn, to keep us up-to-date on contact information, and to support us by attending parent conferences and volunteering as time permits.

Community members are encouraged to be an active part of our schools by serving as mentors, reading buddies, volunteers, and chaperones as well as by attending athletic events and student performances.

You will notice that the science labs at the high school have been updated over the summer. Other improvements (such as HVAC system upgrades at the primary school) may not be as noticeable or may still be “works in progress.”

Please use extra caution on the first few days of school as vehicular traffic will be heavier than normal and pay careful attention for students who may be walking.
Your support for our schools is most appreciated. I consider myself most fortunate and honored to serve as your Interim Superintendent during the 2019-2020 school year.

Stephen W. Hefner, Ed.D.
