Leesville-Services for James Ray Smith, 83, were conducted 3:00 p.m. Thursday at Wittenberg Lutheran Church with the Rev. Emily Edenfield officiating. Burial with Military Honors followed in Ridge Crest Memorial Park. Honorary pallbearers were members of the NCO Club of B-L and the B-L Lions Club. The family received friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Barr-Price Funeral Home and Crematorium, Historic B-L Chapel. Memorials may be made to Wittenberg Lutheran Church, P.O. Mr. Smith passed away Tuesday, October 24, 2017. Born in Leesville, he was a son of the late James Cleveland and Minnie Estelle Burkett Smith. He was a member of Wittenberg Lutheran Church where he served on numerous committees over the years. He retired from the SC Army National Guard with 22 years of service and during his tenure, he was very active with the Guard serving in several capacities. Mr. Smith was a member of the B-L Lions Club for over 40 years only resigning due to his health. During the 1960s, he was a member of the B-L Jaycees and was the retired owner/operator of B & L Office Supply. He enjoyed watching the Gamecocks play football and traveling. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Surviving are his wife, Bobbie Metts Smith; daughter, Joni (Burchell) Richardson; son, Russell (Adriana) Smith; grandchildren, Will Richardson, Nicholas, Daniella, and Jonathan Smith; sister, Vienna Sandifer; brother, Roy (June) Smith.
