Harold Edwin McCarty, Sr., 91, of 125 Saluda Street, Ninety Six, husband of Nettie Mae Kirkland McCarty for 68 years, died Saturday, September 23, 2017 at his home.
Born in Batesburg, he was a son of the late George Ballenger and Mary Lee Mack McCarty. He was retired from Greenwood Mills, Plant No. 7, where he was a member of the Quarter Century Club and was a US Navy veteran of World War II. Mr. McCarty was a member of Cambridge United Methodist Church, Ninety Six, and Clydes Chapel Southern Methodist Church, Batesburg, where he had served as a steward.
Surviving is his wife of the home; his daughter, Joan Laningham of Greenwood; his sons, George McCarty (Cissy) of Ninety Six and Harold Edwin McCarty, Jr. (Ann) of Honea Path; his sister, Catherine McCarty of Leesville; his brothers, Don McCarty of Monetta and Cecil McCarty of Saluda; seven grandchildren; and thirteen great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Pete McCarty and Floyd McCarty; a sister, Ruby Maroney; and a grandson, Lynn Stapleton.
Services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Monday at Clydes Chapel Southern Methodist Church, 2001 Spann Road, Batesburg, with the Rev. Dan Smyth and Rev. Greg Williams officiating. Burial, with military honors, will follow in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Matthew McCarty, Brian McCarty, Russ Balchin, Coot Henderson, Scott McCarty, and Johnny Rhodes.
The family will receive friends at the church on Monday from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m.
A celebration of life will be held at noon on Saturday, September 30, 2017 at Cambridge United Methodist Church in Ninety Six.
