Oct. 1-31: The Pumpkins Are Here! WHERE: The Pumpkin Patch at St. John’s UMC 513 West Church Street in Batesburg. WHEN: Oct. 1-31; Sundays – Fridays from 1-7 pm and Saturdays from 9-7 pm. Pumpkins in all shapes and sizes for ALL your needs! Prices start at $.50 and are priced according to the size of the pumpkin. All proceeds go towards our Outreach Ministries. While supplies last, we have mini pumpkins that are great for teachers and classroom activities. Bring your family, neighbors, and friends!! (The Dream Catchers are partnering with us to make it a great event).

Oct. 10: October 10, 2017 at 6:30 p.m.: PROPAGATION: Discover an inexpensive and easy way to get new plants from plants you already have or from others. A Lexington County Master Gardener Volunteer will discuss propagation from seeds, cuttings, layering and other methods. Cayce West Columbia Library, 1500 Augusta Road, West Columbia, SC 29169.

October 12-14: Ridge Spring Harvest Festival &BBQ Cook-Off
Once again reminders of the Festival and the chance to get some bar-be-que: We are now taking BBQ orders for individual pounds for $8.00 and whole butts for $25.00. Please submit payment at the Ridge Spring Town Hall. You can purchase a pound or a Boston butt, go to town square, taste the 15 different BBQ’s and then select which one you want. Supplies are limited so get yours before they get gone! See y’all at the Harvest Festival! There will also be games and a few rides but they will all be free. The train, the climbing wall, and the trampoline-bungee jump will be there. You can paint your own rock and then hide it. There will be the Country Store with support from local farmers who are greatly appreciated, the Cake and Pie contest, music at the Gazebo, and the parade too. The dates are October 12 for Bingo, October 13 dance at the gazebo and the Grills heat up, and Saturday, October 14 when it all comes together. We have two B & Bs in the area if you want to spend the night or the weekend. They are Gables Inn and Gardens and Magnolia Shadows.

Oct. 13: On October 13, 2017 JROTC will be hosting a blood drive with the Red Cross. Our goal is to receive 36 units of blood. The blood drive will be held in the JROTC Panther Battalion classrooms at Batesburg-Leesville High School. We encourage anyone who would like to donate to call the JROTC department at (803) 532-9251 extension 7110 or extension 7129 to ask about donating to this life-saving cause. This donation is open to the public so if you know anyone who would like to donate please encourage them to come and donate, if you donate you will receive food and drink to help you recover.

Oct. 14: Gulledge/McCormick family reunion, Saturday, October 14th at Ridge Road Community Center from 12:00 pm to 3:30 pm.

Oct. 14: BLFD Selling Boston Butts: The Batesburg-Leesville Fire Department will be holding a Boston Butt Fundraiser in October with the proceeds going towards future equipment purchases. The Boston Butts will be slow cooked over wood coals and will be available for pickup Saturday morning, October 14th from 10:00 am until noon. The cost of the Boston Butts is $30 and can be purchased from a B-L firefighter or by calling the B-L Fire Department at 803-604-7679.

Oct. 15: The Hillary Luther and Martha Elizabeth (Holley) Shealy reunion will be Sunday, Oct 15th 1 PM. at 113 Old Delmar School Road, Leesville, SC. Please notify your family members and bring updated information for the family history book.

Oct. 15: Dream Catchers, partnering with St Johns UMC, will present a “Charlie Brown” Sunday on Sunday, October 15th from 2 PM – 5 PM at St Johns UMC’s Pumpkin Patch, 512 West Church Street, Batesburg-Leesville, SC 29006. All activities are free and include Halloween Bingo, Pin the Skull on the Skeleton, popcorn with take-home Halloween glasses and Peanut character finger puppets and tattoos. COME VISIT & BUY A PUMPKIN!

Oct. 17: The Leesville Batesburg American Legion and the Ladies Auxiliary, Post 61, will meet Tuesday, October 17, 2017, at the Legion Hut on S. Hendrix St., Leesville. Each family is asked to bring a covered dish to be served at 7 pm. The evening meeting will begin after the meal with the formal opening by the American Legion. Then the program for the evening, titled Americanism. All Legionnaires and Auxiliary members are urged to attend. Guests are welcome. The meeting will conclude with the business meetings. Oct. 19: Fall Faith Fun Fest, Oct 19 @ 5 pm. Nazareth United Methodist Church, 2943 Columbia Hwy., Leesville. Games, Food, Bingo, Train Ride, Shaved Ice, Photo Booth, Prizes. Dress as Biblical character. All free and everyone welcome.

Oct. 21: Fall Festivals: The church community will be hosting several Fall Festivals in our community on Saturday, October 21st beginning at 9:00 AM. Faith Lutheran Church, located at 113 N Oak St., will have their festival from 9:00 until 2:00; St. John’s United Methodist, located at 513 W Church St., from 9:00 until 7:00; and Leesville United Methodist Church, located at 510 E Columbia Ave., will host their festival from 9:00 until 3:00. Oct. 21: Batesburg NCO Retiree Club Fundraiser. Turkey stew and Bake Sale to be held Saturday, October 21st, 1pm-3pm at Circle Fire Dept., Hwy 378. Also, stew can be picked up at Batesburg Armory 1-3pm.

Oct. 21: Annual Bethlehem Baptist BBQ: Saturday – October 21st, 2017 – 1/2 BBQ chicken, sweet potato souffle, green beans, cole slaw, and dinner roll, $9.00 per plate. If you’ve ordered tickets for our annual fundraiser, please join us at Bethlehem Baptist Church from 3 to 6 pm to obtain your plate. The church is located at 607 S. Oct. 26: Fall Fashion Show: The Batesburg-Leesville Chamber of Commerce & Visitor’s Center Fall Fashion Show will be Thursday, October 26th beginning at 7:00 PM. The event, presented by Mae’s of Batesburg, will be held at Southern Occasions located at 137 N Oak Street. Tickets are $10.00 and include hors-d’oeuvres. A cash bar will be available. Oct. 26: General Membership Meeting in October: The General Membership Meeting will be Thursday, October 26th at Shealy’s Bar-B-Q beginning at 7:30 AM. Monthly/Weekly Meetings:

Restore Hope Ministries Thrift Store is a non-profit thrift store located at 4810 Augusta Hwy. across from Buddy Taylor’s Produce Stand near Gilbert. They are open Thursday thru Saturday at 11 am. All proceeds go to the local school system. Donations accepted and volunteers needed. For info., call 803-397-3798.

Community Christian Fellowship’s Emergency Food Pantry is open by appointment. Food is provided free of charge to those who qualify. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, gender, age or disability. Located near the Traffic Circle. For information, call 892-4179

The Lexington County Veterans’ Affairs officer, Ed Lundeen, meets veterans, surviving spouses dependents and beneficiaries at the Batesburg-Leesville Branch Library the second Friday of each month from 10 a.m.- noon.

Town of Gilbert welcomes you to visit our Depot Museum the first Sunday of each month from 2-5 p.m. It is located at 333 Hampton Street. Donations are accepted. To schedule appointments, please call 892-2344.

The Christian Ministry Center, 1408 Summerland Ave., Batesburg. The pantry days and hours are Monday, Wednesday, Friday, 9-11:30 a.m. for clients; 8 a.m.-noon for donations. Food and clothes are provided free of charge with an application process. The Christian Ministry Center serves those in need.

Operation Reach Out hours: Thrift Store and Emergency Food Pantry, at 519 E. Columbia Ave., open Saturdays from 10 a.m.- 2 p.m. We also deliver meals to homebound and have a Thrift Store open to all, no discrimination.

The Alzheimer’s Caregiver’s Support Group of Saluda County will meet the 2nd Tuesday of every month at the Ridge Spring Library at 7:00 PM. Any questions regarding this group contact 803-687-1087.

Support Group for Grandparents raising Grandkids. Monday nights from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at St. Paul’s Church located at 144 E. Columbia Ave (across from Bojangles’) in Leesville.
