May 16: The Leesville Batesburg American Legion and the Ladies Auxiliary, Post 61, will meet Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at the Legion Hut on S. Hendrix St., Leesville. Each family is asked to bring a covered dish to be served at 7 p.m. The evening meeting will begin after the meal with the formal opening by the American Legion. Then the program for the evening is the annual Memorial Service honoring our deceased service personnel over the past year. All Legionnaires and Auxiliary members are urged to attend. Guests are welcome. The meeting will conclude with the business meetings. We do not meet during summer months. The next meeting will be on September 19, 2017. May 20: Estate Auction at 432 Convent Church Rd. Leesville on Saturday, May 20, 2017. Sale is being conducted for living estate of Darlene and Jeff Henderson by Shaw Auctions.

May 20: On May 20th, 2017 the Batesburg-Leesville Middle and High School Bands will host their first annual Movie night under the stars. The purpose is to put on a fun family event and say farewell to the 2017 seniors.The gates to the track field will open at 5 pm. There will be music, games, and lots of fun to be had. Once the sun goes down (approx 8-8:30) a short video will be shown that says farewell to the seniors. The movie has not been determined yet, but it will be a fun family-friendly selection. Admission for everyone ages 5 and up is $5.00. With your paid admission you will receive a bag of popcorn and a canned soda of your choice. On the main concourse, there will be a food truck selling delicious cotton candy, drinks, elephant ears, corn dogs etc. Make plans to come spend an evening under the stars at the Batesburg-Leesville High School track field and enjoy a great community/family fun event. May 20: Circle Volunteer Fire Department to host Chicken and Ribs and Bake Sale Fundraiser on Saturday, May 20th, 1-3 pm at the Circle Station. Serving BBQ chicken and ribs and a delicious bake sale. $8.00 per pound for ribs, $8 for a whole BBQ chicken.

May 21: The Johnston Pentecostal Holiness Church will have Homecoming Sunday, May 21, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. The guest speaker is the Rev. Gene Brown, former pastor. The public is cordially invited.

May 21: Spaghetti Dinner: Come support Samaria Baptist Ecuador Mission Team on Sunday, May 21st 11:30 – 2:00 at 6560 Fairview Rd, Batesburg. Plates – $8 Donation (spaghetti, bread, salad, tea) We will also have an auction/bake sale.

May 21st – September 17th: The 2017 Outdoor Worship Season of the Macedonia Lutheran Church of Prosperity at Lake Murray will begin on Sunday, May 21st – September 17th at 8:30 am. Worshippers may come by boat, car, or on foot to the beautiful, early-American Gothic setting beside the crystal waters of Lake Murray. The church is located across the bay from the Billy Dreher Island State Park. Dress is casual. Sunday School is at 9:30 am and the traditional Sanctuary Worship Service is at 10:30 am. Everyone is warmly invited!

May 22: A term of General Sessions Court will convene on Monday, May 22, 2017, at 9:00 a.m. in the Saluda County Courthouse with the Honorable J. Cordell Maddox, Jr., presiding. Petit Jurors are to report on Monday, May 22, 2017, at 9:30 a.m.

May 22: The Lexington County Community Mental Health Center Board of Directors will meet at 5:30 p.m. Monday, May 22, 2017, at 108 Palmetto Park Blvd., Suite D. Residents of Lexington County are invited.

May 25: Open House to be held at Women’s’ Health & Internal Medicine of Batesburg-Leesville on Thursday, May 25, 2017, from 4:00 pm-6:00 pm. May 26: After 53 years of service to the community, Dr. Gurdon Counts will close his practice on Friday, May 26, 2017. May 27: Lexington County Sheriff’s Foundation Jailbreak 5K Run & Walk: The Lexington County Sheriff’s Foundation invites you to join us for a morning of fun and competition at the 11th Annual “Jailbreak 5K Run & Walk”, one of the most competitive races in SC. For the first time, this year’s Jailbreak will also include a team competition. May 29: Memorial Day Ceremony on May 29, 2017: Vietnam Veterans Of America, Inc. – Chapter 303 Columbia is conducting a Memorial Day Ceremony on May 29, 2017, at The Vietnam Memorial in Columbia’s Memorial Park which is located in downtown Columbia, the property is bordered by Hampton, Gadsden, Washington and Wayne Streets and is one block south of Finlay Park. The ceremony will start at 1 PM. There is some parking and seating available for attendees. All Veterans, Veteran Groups and General Public are invited. Scheduled speaker is Major General Steve Siegfried (US Army Ret., former commanding general Ft. Jackson).

May 30: The General Paul Quattlebaum Camp of the Sons of Confederate Veterans will hold their monthly meeting on May 30, 2017, at Shealy’s Bar-B-Q at 7:00 p.m. Mr. Joe Long from the S.C. Confederate Relic Room and Military Museum will present a program on “Artillery Stories of South Carolina Campaign”. A business meeting will follow. All visitors are welcome. The Lexington County Veterans’ Affairs officer, Ed Lundeen, meets veterans, surviving spouses dependents and beneficiaries at the Batesburg-Leesville Branch Library the second Friday of each month from 10 a.m.- noon.

Town of Gilbert welcomes you to visit our Depot Museum the first Sunday of each month from 2-5 p.m. It is located at 333 Hampton Street. Donations are accepted. To schedule appointments, please call 892-2344.

The Christian Ministry Center, 1408 Summerland Ave., Batesburg. The pantry days and hours are Monday, Wednesday, Friday, 9-11:30 a.m. for clients; 8 a.m.-noon for donations. Food and clothes are provided free of charge with an application process. The Christian Ministry Center serves those in need.

Operation Reach Out hours: Thrift Store and Emergency Food Pantry, at 519 E. Columbia Ave., open Saturdays from 10 a.m.- 2
p.m. We also deliver meals to home bound and have a Thrift Store open to all, no discrimination.

The Alzheimer’s Caregiver’s Support Group of Saluda County will meet the 2nd Tuesday of every month at the Ridge Spring Library at 7:00 PM. Any questions regarding this group contact 803-687-1087.
