April 18: The Leesville Batesburg American Legion and the Ladies Auxiliary, Post 61, will meet Tuesday, April 18, 2017, at the Legion Hut on S. Hendrix St., Leesville. Each family is asked to bring a covered dish to be served at 7 pm. The evening meeting will begin after the meal with the formal opening by the American Legion. Then the program for the evening, JROTC. All Legionnaires and Auxiliary members are urged to attend. Guests are welcome. The meeting will conclude with the business meetings. April 22: As part of Lexington County’s Green is Clean Month, residents will be able purchase Lex-Co Natural Wood Compost and purchase/pickup preordered compost bins on Saturday, April 22, 2017, at the Red Bank Crossing Market, 1070 S. Lake Drive, Lexington from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.    Lex-Co Compost can be purchased in bulk for $10 per ton or in 40 lb bags for $2.  Compost Bins are $40 and should be pre-ordered by emailing or calling (803) 785-3340. April 27: Community Awareness. Topic: Drugs and Gang Violence. You are invited to be a part of a better community for your family. Join us Thursday, April 27, 2017, at 5:30 pm at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. Come learn what you can do as a community to make it better for you, your neighbors, and your family. Let’s become aware of what’s going on with and in your community. April 29: Rehoboth UMC will hold their annual Community Fun Day and Yard Sale on April 29, 2017, 9 am-2 pm at the church, 936 Holley Ferry Road, Leesville. April 29: Everyone is invited to come out and enjoy a day filled with fun, food, music and games! The second annual “Play In The Park” event will be held 4/29/2017 from 11am to 5pm at the Leesville park. There will be games played such as kickball, relay races and there will even be a water tank! This event benefits the local schools and all proceeds will be donated. Wristbands will be sold for $5 in which you will be able to get unlimited foods and drinks. Come out and enjoy a great time for a great cause, last year was big but this year will be even bigger! Gift bags along with other goodies will be given out to the kids. April 29: As part of Lexington County’s Green is Clean Month, residents will have the opportunity to recycle electronics, household hazardous waste, shred documents and donate slightly used shoes at the Recycle Day event on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at White Knoll High School, 5643 Platt Springs Road, Lexington from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  This is also a statewide collection event of household and farmer pesticides. The Lexington County Veterans’ Affairs officer, Ed Lundeen, meets veterans, surviving spouses dependents and beneficiaries at the Batesburg-Leesville Branch Library the second Friday of each month from 10 a.m.- noon.

Town of Gilbert welcomes you to visit our Depot Museum the first Sunday of each month from 2-5 p.m. It is located at 333 Hampton Street. Donations are accepted. To schedule appointments, please call 892-2344.

The Christian Ministry Center, 1408 Summerland Ave., Batesburg. The pantry days and hours are Monday, Wednesday, Friday, 9-11:30 a.m. for clients; 8 a.m.-noon for donations. Food and clothes are provided free of charge with an application process. The Christian Ministry Center serves those in need.

Operation Reach Out hours: Thrift Store and Emergency Food Pantry, at 519 E. Columbia Ave., open Saturdays from 10 a.m.- 2
p.m. We also deliver meals to home bound and have a Thrift Store open to all, no discrimination.
