Her family realized early on she had what it took to be a basketball star. Jessica attributes her skills to hard work and coaches that never gave up on her while she was playing. Her high school basketball coach Jimmie Hoover recognized her talents as soon as she touched the ball. Jessica was a powerful force to be dealt with, her opponents knew that once she got her hands on the ball and came down the center it was…swoosh and the ball was in.

Jessica started her college career at Georgia University and later transferred to Clemson University doing the 92-93, 93-94 school year. Doing the 92-93 season Barr averaged 9.7 points per game, a pretty impressive record in which the team had a 19-11 record and advanced to the second round in the NCAA tournament.  Jessica has never been one to settle for second-best. Doing her 93-94 season she became the First Lady Tiger to be named the ACC player of the year.
