Double fatality victims identified from MVA in Lexington County this morning

Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher has released the identities of two persons who were killed in a two-vehicle early morning accident that occurred in the 1500 block of St. Matthews Road (Hwy 6) in Swansea, SC on June 9, 2017.

At approximately 07:20 a vehicle being operated by Jimmie Lee Haygood, Jr., 29 years old, of Orangeburg, SC crossed over the center lane of St. Matthews Road and struck the vehicle of Carmen Franco Nunez, 42 years old, of Cordova, SC in an offset head-on collision.

Carmen Nunez was airlifted to Palmetto Health Richland hospital where she died from the injuries she received in the accident shortly after arrival.

Haygood died at the scene from the injuries he sustained in the accident.

Autopsies were completed on June 9, 2017, and revealed that both drivers died of multiple body trauma.

There were no passengers in either vehicle.  Both Nunez and Haygood were wearing their seatbelts during the accident.

The accident remains under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
