In an effort to deliver effective and timely public safety information during a natural or man-made emergency, the County of Lexington Department of Public Safety will be utilizing the CodeRED emergency alert system.
This system provides the County’s public safety officials the ability to quickly deliver messages to targeted areas, or the entire County, during an emergency event. The system is utilized by many agencies across the state and nation and can notify residents of several emergency situations and issue timely evacuation information.
The County has also contracted the CodeRED Weather warning system which is an opt-in platform that alerts registered users through phone calls, text messages, emails and social media when their properties or businesses are in the direct path of severe weather, such as tornadoes, flash floods and severe storm warnings issued by the National Weather Service.
Law enforcement will also be able to utilize the CodeRED system when searching for missing children, wanted criminals and notifying the public of ongoing incidents.
Residents are encouraged to sign up for CodeRED through the County of Lexington’s website. A link has been provided on the County’s homepage at www.lex-co.sc.gov, where residents will be able to learn more information about this emergency alert system and how they can receive timely emergency information.
